Is it offensive to say Merry Christmas ? Or is it more offensive to not say Merry Christmas ?

I will normally say Happy Holidays just because there are several holidays at this time of year and it doesn’t hurt me to be considerate.

I mean, if they’re a stranger I just say happy holidays if I don’t know them, and Merry Christmas if I do…it’s just a courtesy that does no harm to anyone.

Say it however you please! Can’t worry about offending people when it comes to things like this. It’s personal preference! I prefer Merry Christmas because Christ is the reason for the season!

I also say Merry Christmas, I don’t understand why people get so butt hurt.

I work in the public service and also have a lot of Jewish, Muslim and non religious friends so I say Happy Holidays!!!
So…

I imagine as long as you are friendly / nice about it. If you do offend someone just say “Happy XYZ”. It doesn’t really matter.

A morally neutral issue in my opinion. Anyone who gets offended by people saying happy holidays instead of merry Christmas needs to understand that there are several other religions celebrating their holidays as well. I respect the holiday of Christmas which is why I include it in happy holidays. I promise there is nothing wrong with saying either one though.

I’ve never been a Christian, and I’ve always said Merry Christmas. It’ll please people who deserve pleasing and offend people who deserve offense. That’s a plus either way.

I agree with Dennis Prager. Muslims tell me Merry Christmas. I tell Muslims Happy Eid. I tell Jews I meet Happy Hannukah. Many people from all Faiths, especially outside the USA, are not offended. It is only the secular fanatics. My former boss, an atheist, does not believe but would still say Merry Christmas. Some Christmas songs were written by Jewish compsers. This PC crap is BS and I NEVER say Happy Holidays and I look for Merry Christmas cards. Just my honest contrarian opinion.
