Does the media misrepresent us?

Being a lefty. I find myself often gas lighted or straw manned in debates by those who disagree. I do my best to avoid these things, but it does raise a question. Does anyone else feel the media misrepresents beliefs and in the process divides us further?^

Yes it does, but not just the left. The right is also very misrepresented in the media. It was common ground and pride of the journalists to be " super partes" once, this aspect has been lost more and more over the years. We should hold them to a higher standard. But do we hold ourselves to it? How many people do you know that are impartial? Or that at least try to be? Is the media to be blamed fully or did they just pick up the torch so that more people could throw fire at it?

To me the media had a big part to play but I see your point.

I think that the media, such as CNN, MSNBC, FOX, or any other major news outlet that has a political spin to any headline story, is in support of the status quo. That is traditionally counter to the left’s agenda of progressivism, of challenging the norms, of challenging established authority and demanding more rights for workers and better workplaces.
As for people staying impartial or losing interest in the media or voicing their opinions, that is irrelevant to the core of the major news outlets and programs on public television being partial to conservative values.
These stations with these programs that offer “Hot Takes” on political events are in it to make money, because catchy titles mean views, views mean more eyes on ads, and that means more ad revenue and more people willing to support whomever the station asks the viewers to support.
This video about Bernie Sanderd is a pretty good, if though theatrical example, of the major news outlets portraying him in a negative light by removing much of the context of the events they are “covering”.

I think that is a good indicator there is going to be a bias towards the left with gaslighting and strawmanning arguments, to make it easier for a majority of the consumer audience to be told the status quo isn’t that bad, and things dont need to change THAT much.
